Speaking of the ancient ruins of Cori, Ferdinand Gregorovius said: “This city is old and it belongs to the Proto-Italic or Pelasgian myth…, one of the oldest cities in the world, as it was founded 1470 BC” , and again “… the ancient Cyclopean or Pelasgian walls are compared with those of Mycenae or Tiryns…”

(Ferdinand Gregorovius, Wanderjahre in Italien, Leipzig, 1864).

Founded according to legend by Dardanus in 1400 BC and restored by Corax who gave its present name, certainly “Cori was a powerful city when Rome was just at the dawn of its greatness”.

(E.Scarnicchia, Cori attraverso i Secoli, 1968).
